Why Isn’t My Sink Draining?
The reason that any sink stops draining is because there is some sort of blockage.
The question is, where is the sink blockage located? Often the blockage is located at an accessible place, like right at the base of the sink or in the P trap. If it is located at those pipes near the sink, a plumber can easily take them apart and clean them out thoroughly.
If the blockage is located further down the pipes it will be concealed inside of a wall or inside of the flooring. If this is the case, a plumber would generally remove the P trap to create an opening to insert a power snake to get to the blockage and break up the clog. As the clog breaks up, the water pushes the debris into a larger pipe flushing plenty of water through the pipes to clear everything out. Shower tub drains are unclogged in a similar manner but it is generally harder to access the pipe opening unless you have a plumbing access panel located nearby. Once unclogged the sink should drain easily and completely.
